Inward

Becoming vs Discovering

“If you can dream it you can become it!”

Seriously?

Live long enough and you’ll soon discover this isn’t true. It also isn’t biblical. The Lord didn’t slap you together and say, “Now go do the best you can however you want!”

Instead, Scripture reveals incredible care, purpose and intentionality went into your design.

“For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
In your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.”
Psalm 139:13-16

And then we’re told in Ephesians 2:10

“We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works which God has prepared in advance for us to do.”

God has good works He’s prepared in advance for you to do! And He has uniquely hand-fashioned you so you can do them!

Instead of putting energy into trying to BECOME something you’re not, can it ever make a huge difference in you life when you focus on DISCOVERING how you’ve been uniquely created and learn how to live and work and relate according to your unique design.

As a campus minister I often see students and recent graduates struggling, feeling like a loser because they can’t do what someone else can do. This doesn’t just reflect on them but on the One who made them!

“On paper I’m doing my dream job, but I absolutely hate it!
What’s wrong with me?”

There’s nothing wrong with you!
There is a reason this is happening!

I love coming alongside people who are struggling, to help them discover the wonderful way the Lord’s hand fashioned them, to help them embrace what is wonderfully right about their unique design, and experience how wise and caring and purposeful is the One who created them!

Three key components facilitating such discovery are: Talents, Core Motivations and Purpose. Discovering what these uniquely look like for you provides direction towards what the Lord has (and has not!) created you to do!
